I believe that in the Christmas season, we are reminded of what is most important to us: that we are not alone in this world--that God is with us! In Matthew 1: 23 we read, “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means, “God is with us.”
God came down to earth in human form and became one of us! He became a baby! It is difficult to imagine that everyone was a baby at one time. But, all of us entered the world this way. God, in his desire to be connected to us, entered the world in the same way we did! He came to be with us – to experience all the many joys in life, but also the injustices; the disappointments; pain, suffering and death that we experience! He then defeated the lasting effect death would have on us through his resurrection from the dead! God knows us and cares so much that did not leave us alone, but came to be with us – Emmanuel!
We hope you can worship with us at our special advent Sunday services leading up to Christmas. On Christmas Eve we have three worship services – 6pm family service; 8pm lessons and carols; and 11pm Candlelight Communion service. Our contemporary service at 4pm on December 18 will be followed by a Christmas dinner in the Church gymnasium (Oakridge Hall). You are invited to attend the service and join us for a free Christmas dinner afterwards.
As you prepare this advent season for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, be encouraged that you are not alone in your daily life. God is with you through his ever-present Holy Spirit! Let this knowledge during this advent season lead you to a greater awareness of God’s loving presence in your life.
