Psalm 8:1-2a – O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. From the lips of children and infants, you have ordained praise. (NIV)
I love going for walks with my wife Jackie. We listen to the sounds of birds, pay attention to the wildflowers which are popping out of the ground and the smells which enlighten our senses. Over the years, we have become more attentive to the beauty of God's creation through these walks, and have become more aware of the presence of God all around us.
A couple of months ago, while traveling to a worship service, one of the members of our church was traveling with me and pointed to the magnificent clouds in the sky. When I looked up, the clouds were not so different from how I remembered them, but in drawing to my attention their wonder, the beauty became clear. Clouds are in the sky on most days and therefore they too easily become 'ordinary'. In my busyness and schedules, I can take such beauty for granted.
As we head into the summer holidays and the busyness associated with the season, let us regularly take a moment and point out to one another the wonder of God's creation.
Making the gift of life around us 'ordinary' will diminish our joy. In making it a priority to pay attention and give thanks to God will build the habit to do so naturally. The joy of God's presence coming from the gift of life in us and around us - helps us remember the gracious gift of Jesus our saviour and the gift of the Holy Spirit who lives within us. We are blessed!
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Let's say it again!
