Music Ministry

Music at Oakridge

For many years, Oakridge has been committed to bringing forth a blended music objective for its Ministry of Music. This, in part, means that we welcome music of both modern and traditional styles. We embrace music of many cultures and traditions, with appreciation for the wide variety of music that helps to inspire us. Music in worship helps us to pray, rejoice, reflect, learn and sometimes to mourn. In hymns, praise music and in responses, the congregation takes a active part, with heartfelt singing. All who wish to participate outside of the Sunday Services are invited to join us in the various music rehearsals that take place weekly. A long term commitment is not necessary.

Oakridge Choir

We are blessed with a dedicated choir, fifty voices strong who divide their time and talents between both morning services. Music from a wide variety of traditions is brought forward in anthems and in beautiful harmonies for the hymns and songs used throughout the Services. Practices take place Thursday evenings from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.

Triple Cord Chorus

Youth from ages 6 to 19 gather weekly to develop singing, music reading and basic performance skills while having fun! This Youth Chorus meets Thursdays from 5:40 until 6:20, with a snack and hang out time that follows. Percussion, Chime, Kazoo and harmonica playing opportunities. Open to those ages 4 through teen years. This ensemble also works on projects together with the Oakridge Choir, the Violin and Guitar Workshop members and with our Praise Team.

Violin Classes

There are 2 layers of music in the music we perform, a simple harmony part, usually on open strings for the less experienced players and a melodic part, for the more advanced players. Registration for inclusion in this class takes place from late September until mid November each year. We accept new members in the class at any time if they have had sufficient lessons to join in with the others. The classes are on Thursdays from 4:10 until 5:50.
