Afghanistan “Starting Life Right” Project

Afghanistan “Starting Life Right” is a 5-year global mission project that OPC is supporting through Presbyterian World Service & Development, and this project serves the needs and health of the women and children in Afghanistan. For several years Oakridge Presbyterian Church has been supporting Starting Life Right in Afghanistan, a program that improves the lives of expectant mothers and newborns in Afghanistan through pre-natal education of mothers and fathers, training mid-wives, creating medically equipped birthing clinics, and follow-up of babies. Afghanistan has had a very high degree of maternal deaths and infant mortality due to years of war, poverty, and lack of medical care. We are changing that through our financial contributions that are generously enhanced by funds from the Canadian Government. This project is conducted locally by trained Afghans and administered by one of the partners of Presbyterian World Service and Development.
