Sunday Mornings Services at 9:15 and 11:00am
OPC Mini-Newsletter – October 16, 2020
Dear Congregation: Jesus not only knew people’s hearts; he also observed their behaviour. For example, at a dinner hosted at a Pharisee’s house, Jesus observed how the guests were picking places of honour which were close to their host. This is a little like going to a wedding reception and seating yourself at the head table with the bride and groom.
Jesus told a parable to those present about humility – a parable in line with the Proverb reading above. In applying this lesson Jesus stated as recorded in Luke 14: 11, “11 For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Those who are wise would understand Jesus’ solid words as he applied Solomon’s wisdom. These words of Jesus remind us not to think too highly of ourselves or for that matter, take ourselves too seriously. Boasting about your accomplishments takes away from Jesus where the credit is actually due.
Proverbs proclaims wisdom which is all about grace. It is actually about what God accomplishes through us and even in spite of us. Living in gratitude of God’s grace frees us for humility and joy in Jesus who loves us and provides for our deepest needs. It is not all up to us. In this time of uncertainty, self-preservation, as a response to fear, is diminished through Christ who will never let us go and to whom we belong.
We are pleased to announce that we will be starting Kids Ministry Nov. 01st at both services. Further details coming soon!

MISSION AND OUTREACH
In the midst of COVID the work of Mission and Outreach continues, even though we cannot physically resume some of our ministry activities. But we can continue to financially support the agencies with which we have been associated before this crisis hit. We were planning for the fall communion offering to be given for the support of Mission Services. Since we will not have Special Offering envelopes for your use, please make your own envelope.
Ø Make the cheque payable to: Oakridge Presbyterian Church
Ø Memo line: Mission Services
Thank you for your help to this worthwhile agency.
One of the departments of Mission Services that we also actively support is the Rotholme Family Shelter. We have been told that it requires reusable face masks, refillable water bottles, and snacks for the children. If we you wish to make masks or donate these items place contact Rotholme at 42 Stanley Street, 519-673-4114. You will have to make an appointment to deliver these items.
